I've been busy today...
Been loading the van with a load of "to get rid of" stuff. Cleaned the kitchen and the floors, now settling down to do some painting.... I found a petrified McDonald's Hamburger in Keegan's toybox.... still in the kid meal bag. It was sorta scary how good it looked, it had to have been in there for awhile. I may need to rethink ever eating there again, but I do LOVE their Angus Mushroom Swiss burger!

I have made a decision about Christmas this year.... lots of hand made stuff, (I've been working on gifts since Sept) and I am only buying 5 gifts and 3 gift cards beyond what I can make. I am cheating on the buying. Thanks to Sears and Kmart, I am doing online lay-aways for the 5 gifts I want to buy, that's as far as my budget goes this year. I am hoping this means I do not have to step foot inside a store except to do my pickup. If you want to cheat too and have a store near you to pick up from, here are the links to their online layaway pages, all I have to say is they had better not screw this up! If I have to go shopping at the last minute because of a error on their part, heads will roll.

This is actually quite clever of Sears/Kmart... let customers buy online, pickup local, make payments online... makes for easy-peasy shopping, and should help make their store customer service easier to deliver. Unless Black Friday turns out some jaw breaking deals I am staying home from that this year due to budget cuts....except for the Crafter's Warehouse sale...I have to go to that one if they have anything worthwhile at all, it was a lot of fun last year even with the bone chilling hour wait to get into the store. JoAnn's Black Friday sale will be attended on account of necessity only if I need something to either finish or make a gift.

What is everyone else doing about gifts this year? I know Obama says we are recovering, but I do not feel recovered at all.

I'm doing gift cards this year, myself. Let THEM worry about dealing with the crowds.

I am buying K&K each an electric blanket, hoping it reduces their portable heater use. It is something they would not buy themselves.... and it MIGHT save me some money this winter.

I bought a like new but second-hand Swedish all wood dollhouse for Maddy last year to redecorate and make dolls and soft furniture for, but my son said to wait a year to give it to her... so I am finishing it up now, just gotta make the dolls....might make them sorta like Golli's just because.

I bought my son and his wife an entertainment book, the local one is really good and has lot's of great deals in it... half price oil changes, free movies, dinners, plays, concerts, free kids event passes, etc.

Ramie and Brian each get a special gift and an Amazon gift card... and I am buying a decent basic High Def TV with a DVD player built in for the living room because our TV is just about dead.

My brother and Dave are getting Oregon wine, a cookbook of my mom's recipes that I made on tastebook, homemade Kahlua and a hand made gift each.
That and cookie baking, and I am done except for some small gifts I am handing out to friends. I want a stress free, debt free holiday for a change. Even dinner is going to be simple, I want to drink, do art and watch sappy holiday movies on TV all day.

I'm going to go for more simple things that mean a ton. I imagine a lot of the things that I gift are going to be homemade and useful. The kids... I'm thinking of setting at a certain limit of x amount of money AND x amount of gifts. We were not really affected by the recession so to speak but we aren't living the high life either.

I had my first Black Friday experience ever last year. I was okay with it but OMG I could not deal with all of the people. I might just stay home this year unless I find some great deals on things for the kids.
